As it got longer I started to put scarves around it.

As my hair got longer for special occasions I would braid my locs into two fat rows or wear a head wrap.

My eldest child was getting quite big and I worried about picking up headlice from her via her friends. I had seen children with headlice. I couldn't imagine how I would get eggs out of locs.
Also although the locs weren't that long when I washed them I caught cold. I started washing my hair first thing in the morning, but I was still going to bed at night with damp hair, hence the colds. So I started going to the hairdressers to have my locs washed and dried. In the summer of 2000 I also had the tips bleached blonde.
Due to those two things I decided to have my head shaved for charity. The month before my second child was born I my head shaved.

In some ways it was a good move. However I forgot one thing I had a baby. There were very thin patches and bald areas on top of my head. I never noticed with the first as I had started locs. So to cover up the bald areas I continued to have my head shaved every three weeks. The hairdresser was very positive she said it was the baby and she could see the hair coming.
